Kate Hudson spoke about how she and her brother Oliver Hudson were brought up by Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.

Kate Hudson had to do it herself if she desired to be on the verge of fame. The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actress claimed that she and her brother Oliver Hudson did not receive any favors, even though they were raised by well-known parents Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.
"I'm being really honest with you, I grew up in L.A. where I saw kids coast by with parents who gave them everything," Kate stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast on February 19. "And I had the opposite parents."

"We were clearly privileged kids," the 46-year-old added. "But I do think that my parents were so adamant about how none of it belonged to us, that we didn't earn it, that in order to get a life [like the one] we were living, we had to earn it ourselves, that that would never be available to us unless we had the same kind of work ethic."
Kate, however, accepted her parents' perspective and "really took that to heart," even though she was surrounded by children whose parents helped them succeed.
"I was like, 'No, I will never rely on my parents,'" she remembered. "And that was my big thing, like, ‘I will never take a job because of them. I don't want anybody knowing they're my parents.’”
In fact, because making it on her own was “really, really important,” Kate, whose father by blood is musician Bill Hudson, expressed satisfaction that she wasn't immediately linked to Kurt and Goldie, saying, “When I first started, I was so happy my last name was Hudson.”
Even though her parents were "very strict about us being on set," the Almost Famous actress acknowledges that she was fortunate to grow up surrounded by filmmaking, even if she made careful to forge her own career path as an actress.
“We either had to work, we had to do something to earn being on set or we had to really stay out of everybody's way,” she clarified, “but we couldn't just hang around.”
But Kate admitted, “This is where I see my privilege and my opportunity. I got to grow up immersed in what I see as the most magical industry on the planet. And I got to see it through a little girl's eyes, watching everybody work to make it happen.”
Naturally, Kate and Goldie's relationship goes beyond the movie sets she used to visit as a kid.
