Capes are not just for superheroes, as Meghan Markle is demonstrating. The Duchess of Sussex made her debut at the Balenciaga runway show on October 4 and arrived in style at Paris Fashion Week 2025, wearing a spectacular floor-length cape.
Along with an all-white outfit that included a button-down shirt and matching slacks, the 44-year-old accessorized the look with a black purse and black heels, putting her hair in a slicked-back ponytail and wearing minimum makeup.
Having “long admired his craftsmanship and modern elegance.” Meghan went to her first Paris Fashion Week event in support of Pierpaolo Piccioli, the new creative director of Balenciaga, despite having attended many New York Fashion Week and Toronto Fashion Week presentations over the years.
“Over the years, the Duchess has worn a number of designs by Pierpaolo,” People was informed by Meghan's spokesperson. “This evening reflects the culmination of many years of artistry and friendship, reflected in her support for his new creative chapter at Balenciaga.”
Meghan then attracted attention when she appeared in a second costume. Meghan is the mother of Prince Archie, age 6, and Princess Lilibet, age 4. When leaving the city's Hôtel Plaza Athénée, the With Love, Meghan actress opted for a black ankle-length dress with an asymmetrical neckline instead of sleeves.
Meghan has always been interested in fashion, of course. She shared how her time as a royal has influenced her approach to fashion last year.
“Times where I know there is a global spotlight, and attention will be given to each detail of what I may or may not be wearing,” in August 2024, she informed The New York Times, “then I support designers that I have really great friendships with, and smaller, up-and-coming brands that haven’t gotten the attention that they should be getting.”
“That’s one of the most powerful things that I’m able to do,” Meghan went on, “and that’s simply wearing an earring.”
