Oprah Winfrey is in better health than ever before. The media entrepreneur has been open about using GLP-1s to lose weight, but she recently disclosed an unanticipated side effect of the drug: she no longer consumes alcohol.
“I was a big fan of tequila,” in a December 30 interview, Oprah informed People. “I literally had 17 shots one night.”
However, the 71-year-old claimed that her days of outdrinking "everyone at the table" were finished after taking GLP-1s.
“The fact that I no longer even have a desire for it,” she said, “is pretty amazing.”
Almost every aspect of her life has been impacted by that wonderful emotion.
“I feel more alive and more vibrant than I’ve ever been,” in 2023, Oprah revealed that she was utilizing a GLP-1. “I’m not constantly punishing myself. I hardly recognize the woman I’ve become. But she’s a happy woman.”
She also believes that she has more energy for her loved ones, especially her partner Stedman Graham, who she claims has been "nothing but supportive."
“I feel like I have more to give to everybody,” she continued. “I’m just more open to all.”
Additionally, Oprah no longer feels ashamed of her inability to sustain her weight loss.
“I avoided the word ‘obesity.’ It connoted ‘out of control,’” she clarified. “But I came to understand that overeating doesn’t cause obesity. Obesity causes overeating. And that’s the most mind-blowing, freeing thing I’ve experienced as an adult."
She also offers a straightforward message for anyone going through similar difficulties: It's not your fault.
“I want people to stop blaming yourself for genes and an environment you can’t control,” she stated. “I want people to have the information, whatever you choose to do with it, whether you get the medications, or whether you want to keep dieting."
