Sydney Sweeney looked flawless as she transitioned into her new profession. In fact, the actress revealed that nothing was more exhilarating than gaining thirty pounds to play professional boxer Christy Martin in the Christy biography.
"It was probably one of the most amazing, fun experiences," Sydney made the announcement in advance of the global premiere on September 5 at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. "I was a very happy person, and I became so strong. I felt so good. I mean, I just felt Christy's power."
Additionally, bulking up was not a particularly difficult process. The 27-year-old found the workouts fun in addition to eating "everything" to gain enough muscle to enter professional boxing mode.
"I loved it," she revealed. "It just felt fun and exciting. I don't know if I was like, 'Oh my god, it's grueling,' because it was just such a good time."
The actress from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood provided additional details about the procedure earlier this summer.
“I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training," in a June interview with W magazine, she said. "I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour."
As she pointed out, "I didn't fit in any of my clothes," it was certainly worth it, she said.
"But it was amazing," she explained. "I was so strong, like crazy strong."
To be successful in the job, she also needed to psychologically and physically transform into Christy.
"Christy's story isn't a light one, it's physically and emotionally demanding, there's a lot of weight to carry," last year, she stated to Deadline. "But I love challenging myself. Christy Martin not only legitimized female boxing, she overcame gender stereotypes and fought through emotional, physical and financial abuse."
