Time for mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) in Nigeria?

1

They have this thing they call mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) in the United States. Typically,  an MVNO enters deals with a mobile network operator (say MTN, Glo, Airtel, AT&T, Verizon) and acquires bulk access to network services at wholesale rates, then resells to end users. Most MVNOs use their own customer service, billing support systems, marketing, and sales personnel. You will think they are a full network operator!

The business works this way: in January you go to MTN to buy 1 million hours of call, 1000GB of data, 1 million SMS and MTN gives you 60% discount for that bulk purchase. You then open a business like Tekedia Telecoms and resell to the end users. You differentiate via customer service, pricing innovation, etc even though the core infrastructure and networks are powered by MTN.

Can we have Tekedia Telecoms?  Lol. In the US, it is largely possible. Why can’t that  happen in Nigeria? Can we ask for it now? Sure, MVNO works in domains with excess capacity which may not be the case in Nigeria. Nonetheless, to deepen competition via customer service, there is an opening on that business model if the regulator approves.

2023: My People, This Is Moment Of Truth

0

Fellow Nigerians, I welcome us once again to another distinguished edition. It’s always my utmost pleasure to embrace our presence on this platform in regards to the impending 2023 electoral race in Nigeria as the tradition demands.

Without you, this crusade would not have gone this far. Your solidarity since we commenced the movement has been awesome and very encouraging, to assert the least. I cannot ask for more from you than to plead with us to continue bringing out time for the political get-together.

This is the place where we discuss facts and the way forward. It is the only arena where issues of importance are discussed objectively without hiding any truth. This is the platform where we have been collectively discussing matters of interest as they concern the fast approaching 2023 general elections, particularly the Presidential poll.

In our previous edition, we took time to discuss the urgent need for us to gather as one formidable family. In that wonderful outing, we thoroughly talked about why we must come together as one indivisible member of a home, which is no doubt what we have been known for.

The previous edition told us in clear terms the reason we should not pay attention to anyone who does not mean well for the country, zone, or constituency, as the case may be.

This very edition is interested in consolidating the previous ones. Just as it reads “…this is moment of truth”, it has come to present more facts before our presence to enable us see for ourselves the difference between good, bad and worst. It is therefore targeted to tender the handwriting boldly so that even the blind could see everything.

Although so far we have been stating facts and nothing more, this edition is more focused on disclosing the fundamental facts; that is why it was branded ‘moment of truth’. It is time to explain to us in clearer words what we need to understand, or what we should have understood long ago.

It is no longer news that at the moment, several persons have indicated interest to lead Nigeria come 2023. And sooner or later, more names will definitely be included in the list of the already available aspirants.

On the other hand, soonest, most of these aspirants will drop their aspirations, either because they are stepping down for others or never had any intention to become the President of the country, or as might be the case.

Whatever reason that would make the aspirants drop their aspirations, the gospel truth remains that not all that glitters is gold. This is why we are using this medium to educate us properly towards making us know the appropriate step to take in regard to the forthcoming elections in Nigeria.

Some individuals have just come to confuse us. Their main motive is to distract the minds of the good people of Nigeria, so that they wouldn’t know where they are meant to go or the pathway to follow. They have come to cause confusion among the electorate. Such people could be described as evil.

But the good news is that, if we remain focused and careful, we can never be cajoled by this set of politicians who do not mean well for the country. If we truly understand what we want or desire, we won’t be taken for fools by anyone regardless of his or her status.

We must note that winning any election goes beyond printing banners and stickers, or what have you. Before one could win an election, he or she must have a target or objective.

Someone cannot come from anywhere and become the President of Nigeria, or what have you. It’s noteworthy that time has gone when elections were characterized by rigging; right now, everybody’s vote counts.

Nigerians are too old and experienced in the game to be deceived by anyone no matter how highly placed he or she is. The people of the country know exactly what they want, so cannot in any way be cajoled by any individual. Among all, Nigerians do not need anyone to decide on their behalf because they know what is good for them and the country at large.

The electorate, therefore, must pay attention to only a focused politician who is out to put Nigeria in the world map; a person whose conscience is very much alive; someone who can take the country to the right path; a Nigerian who had sought for God’s divine direction before concluding in aspiring for the number one seat in the country.

We must equally be mindful of the ‘not too young to run’ law. Ordinarily, President Muhammadu Buhari wouldn’t have considered signing that bill into law acknowledging his present age, but he was compelled by the Almighty to do otherwise or contrary to his wish for the country’s sake.

This is where divinity comes in, and that is what controls whatever we do here on earth. Once God says ‘yes’, no one can say ‘no’ or vice-versa. In other words, if you are into any race with the support of God, failure can never see your backside let alone embrace you. One with God is the majority.

Let’s take a break till we meet again as I urge us to carefully digest the above message.

How Employers Can Prevent Domestic Violence In The Workplace

0

Whenever the topic of domestic violence is discussed, the abuse that happens in marriages and relationships is often the most talked about, negating the fact that domestic violence also happens in the workplace. Although it is not widely talked about and magnified, it might interest you to know that domestic violence occurs in the workplace.

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) 1996, it disclosed that every week 20 people were murdered and 18,000 more assaulted while on the job. It is ideal that whenever the topic of domestic violence is being talked about, it should be discussed holistically. Every area where domestic violence happens should be touched.

When it comes to domestic violence in the workplace, women, in particular, are more vulnerable than men. They have more than double the rate of on-the-job homicides than men, (19% to 18%). As business owners/employers, workplace violence is something that should not be treated with levity, rather there is an urgent need for measures to be put in place to prevent and address domestic violence in the workplace.

Below are four (4) ways employers can prevent domestic violence in the workplace;

Establish A Clear Workplace Violence Policy: To ensure a safe workplace and to reduce the risk of violence, there should be a clear workplace violence policy which should be made mandatory for all employees to review and understand the provisions of the company’s workplace violence policy. Embedded in the policy should be a list of behaviors or conduct that is prohibited in the workplace. Although many employers have policy statements around the prevention and protection from violence in the workplace, albeit most of these policies do not consider prevention, as it only deals with situations where violence has already occurred. It is therefore important to note that there should be policies that also prevent workplace violence.

Train Employees To Recognize Warning Signs: Employers must see the need to come up with training programs that can help employees be alert to warning signs of potential workplace violence. Such programs can also help employees to stop an impending dangerous incident before it occurs. Employers must understand that such training programs should include issues of privacy and confidentiality. What this means is that employees need to feel that their privacy will be protected for them to be comfortable raising concerns and reporting certain issues to their employers. Warning signs of potential violence include; Paranoia, Violation of the company’s rules and policies, Violent behaviors, Depression or Withdrawal, Excessive use of drugs or alcohol intake, Possession of dangerous objects, etc.

Offer Communication And Empathy: Employers must see the need to demonstrate empathy in the workplace because it is a key part of emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness. When an employer can communicate and understand employees’ feelings, they will be able to understand their perspectives and connect better with them. Sometimes violence in the workplace often happens because employees are misunderstood, so in a bid to react, such a person can resort to violence. Employers must also educate employees on the need to be emphatic because it improves communication, strengthens the working relationship, and makes for a positive workplace. When employees are in good relationships with one another, domestic violence is less likely to occur.

Create A Supportive Environment: Employers must ensure that workers feel heard and supported in the workplace. For instance, when an employee encounters domestic violence or is threatened in the workplace when reporting such situations, they should be supported and not faced with reprisals regardless of who they are reporting. Workplace violence issues apply up the corporate ladder exempting nobody.

Conclusion

To prevent workplace violence, employers must see the need to put down rules/measures that will help prevent violence in the workplace. No employer will be happy to see his or her organization sealed because an employee killed his colleague due to domestic violence. This is why employers must ensure that the prevention of workplace violence should not be treated with levity.
