Finally, Nigeria Gets A Grown Up Online Advertising Company – Adplacers May Be The Real Deal

1

It is very evident that Nigeria with its population is the real deal. We have since wondered who can get the nation a solid online ad representation. Now, it seems that Adplacers will just do that.

Adplacers is an Advertising Placement and Management platform that allows individuals, Agencies and Corporate brands to place and monitor their campaigns on leading websites like Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter, BBC etc. instead of registering or login into different platforms.

Very interesting indeed and that is basically what has to happen. The company focuses on Nigerian and Ghanian markets for now and will surely expand as they make progress. The good thing about this is that they can take this mobile and help to consolidate this market that has no shape.

The AdPlacers Network delivers over 2 million impressions daily to online targets in Nigeria, Cameron and Ghana on local and foreign sites, making it the #1 AdNetwork, Placement and Management.

We saw this company since last week when we visited Nairaland but never knew it was local. At the right hand side, notice adplacers below the DealDey ad. It would have been better if those ads are rotating instead of being one company. For the last few days it has been that DealDey that is there.

Recent Funding Statistics In Africa-Based Entities From Indigo Trust

Hive Colab is a place where East African technologists can go to cut their teeth, work together, and share ideas. They also get insights from people from the NGOS, and universities. Simply,  it  is an open, collaborative, community owned, work environment for young tech entrepreneurs  that provides a platform to develop ideas. It is called a “hive” because it’s a place with lots of activity. Early this year, Hive Colab received funding from Indigo Trust. The Indigo Trust awarded a grant of £10, 000 to the Hive Colab in Uganda.   The grant covered training of volunteers, general operational costs, development of technical platforms and a number of specific interventions.

Pamoja FM, a community radio station in Kibera slum, Nairobi came to the fore during the 2007-2008 election violence, where they acted as a calming influence on the citizens in Kibera, which was in stark contrast with many comparable stations, which incited violence over this period.  In this way, they remained true to their name which means ‘Unity’ in Swahili.  Pamoja is working closely with FrontlineSMS Radio to enable two-way communication with their listeners in real-time.  The Indigo Trust awarded Pamoja FM a grant of £2213 for equipment which will enable the effective execution of this intervention.

FrontlineSMS Radio also received a grant of £10, 200 grant from Indigo Trust to fund a part-time Project Manager to coordinate between the developer team, researchers, partners and users on the ground.  FrontlineSMS combines laptops with mobiles to bridge a crucial information gap between grassroots organisations and their staff or constituents. This could be very helpful to health care delivery intervention.

Africa Gathering provides a space to bring technophiles, thinkers, entrepreneurs, innovators and everybody else together to talk about positive change in sustainable development, technology, social networking, health, education, environment and good governance in Africa. Late last year, The Indigo Trust  awarded a grant of £10, 000 to Africa Gathering (£5000 towards ICT4D conference costs and £5000 for business support).

There is also an award of £5,000 to the Co-Creation Hub team to cover prize money and some project management costs for a Tech-in Governance ‘Living Lab’ event in Lagos. Recently, together, with Omidyar Network, they are funding a ccHub in Nigeria. Of course, we covered iCow few days ago on Tekedia. We think Indigo Trust is making progress and we like the small pieces they make this.

BusyInternet Is Setting Up Wi-Fi Spots Across Ghana

0

BusyInternet was founded in Ghana in 2001 with a unique mission to provide both commercial services as well as social and economic development. More importantly, Busy seeks to create a community of like-minded entrepreneurs where proximity breeds innovation and shared services.

Located in a 14,000 square foot former gas-bottling factory in the heart of Accra, Busy is a collaboration with two local investment companies (Fidelity Capital Partners and Databank) and a Welsh entrepreneur.

This company has built Wi-Fis across some places in Ghana which Tekedia thinks is cool. We need this in Nigeria especially in the airport and schools.  BusyInternet-MTN Wi-Fi Hotspot services are available at:

  • BusyInternet Ring Road Central
  • Accra Mall
  • Koffee Lounge – A&C Shopping Mall
  • Roman Ridge Shopping Arcade
  • Shangri – LA Hotel
  • Kotoka International Airport
  • Pub RIOJA – Osu
  • Ghana Hostels (University of Ghana) – Project in progress
  • Korle-Bu Medical School (International Students & Medical Sciences Hostel)
  • Primrose Place
  • Dr. Limann Hostel (University of Ghana)

President Jonathan, Nigerians Want Equal Opportunities, Not Necessarily Outcomes. Reform The Tax Codes And Reinvest Proceeds.

0

Tekedia Intelligence has looked at some data and our conclusion is that 1% of Nigerians take more than 30% of the nation’s income. And that small group controls more than 55% of the wealth. This is an estimate and we do not have hard numbers. Our estimates is based on public data from company ownerships and a small sample which we extrapolated. For instance, what Ailko Dangote takes as annual income could basically cover what many combined local governments staff take in a year. There is nothing wrong with that – he is a business man.

Also, we have also noted that some Nigerian Senators take home what some governments agencies budget in a year. Some of the agencies in the Federal Ministry Of Science and Technology do not receive as much the government budgets for one senator. That gives an indication on how the nation is structured.

In our typical way Tekedia thinks Nigeria needs to reform its tax codes. The rich people are not paying the society. There is nothing wrong in being rich. What we want is that rich has no pay the right taxes. We are not asking for redistribution of wealth, we are asking that government needs more revenue to help push many kids in Nigeria whose without government help will never make it to the next social ladder.

We are not under the illusion that free market will fix things. Why? Nigeria is not a place of equal opportunity. Your life success depends largely on your tribe, your family pedigree, among others. If the nation has been a place of equal opportunity, we will not have a  problem in asking for ways to bring some equality. If the government makes the playing ground fair, no one should question the outcome. Let the good and hard working people succeed, provided anyone can have the same opportunity. The outcome could vary, that is life.

Let it be known, we support free enterprise society. Yet, Nigeria needs to get more revenue to make progress in the nation. Nigerians welcome those that became successful through the equal opportunity path – no one can question the outcome. But Nigerians are very disgusted when access to a politician or government employees could make people mogul and on top of that no one collects taxes from these new rich guys.
