Ethiopians Know That Sigma Electric Is There for Power, Industrial, and Telecom Sectors

0

SIGMA Electric PLC is a multi-disciplinary Electro-Mechanical Engineering Company established in 1999, operating in four business areas of power system services; industrial service; commercial activities; and telecommunication.

SIGMA Electric PLC is established as a result of a strategic merger between two separate groups who shared similar vision. One of these two groups was an enterprise known as Remake Engineering. Remake Engineering was established under the sole proprietorship of two electro-technical professionals.

It was limited only to installation, commissioning and subsequent servicing of electro-mechanical equipments such as motors, generators and their auxiliary equipment and maintenance of kitchen appliances such as refrigerators and heavy duty stoves for homes, hospitals and hotels. The second group mainly comprised of senior professional Electrical Engineers having substantial exposure to modern electromechanical business techniques and who were in consultation with each other to form a commonly owned private company.

Initiated by the objectives of tapping with the ongoing business trend as well as upcoming opportunities and challenges, these two groups had the opportunity to come together and establish a private company named SIGMA Electric PLC, in July 1999 since then the company began to bid successfully for larger projects.

For the best and efficient service provision and customer satisfaction SIGMA structured its business area along the industry line. Presently the company is engaged in three major operational areas. Namely;

  • Power and communication system services
  • Industrial services:
  • Commercial Services

New 32-bit Motor Control Microcontroller for Electric (EV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) by Fujitsu Semiconductor

0

Fujitsu Semiconductor America (FSA) has introduced a series of new 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) that combine excellent performance with a wide range of peripheral functions to enable optimal, high-speed and highly efficient 3-phase inverter motor control in electric (EV) and hybrid vehicles (HV).

The new MB91580 series is part of the FR family of 32-bit RISC architecture microcontrollers, which incorporate embedded Flash memory and feature optimized, high-performance peripherals for EV and HV 3-phase inverter motor control. Applications include EV/HV motor and electric generator control, as well as generic, high-performance, electric motor control.

Highly efficient loopback control is achieved by using a high-speed, dedicated 12-bit A/D converter and Resolver-to-Digital Converter (RDC). Dedicated hardware generates the required motor control parameters (such as the electrical angle’s sine and cosine values) to accurately detect motor current and position at high speeds, enabling precise motor control waveform generation. The FR81S CPU uses the latest and most advanced FR core to deliver 160DMIPS high-performance calculating power. An IEEE-754-compliant Floating Point Unit enables the MCU to process vector conversion and PID control calculations rapidly, using data from the 12-bit A/D converter and RDC.

The resulting solution delivers highly optimized, real-time controllability for EV and HV motors with fast and efficient loopback operation, and the best torque control possible. This level of integration and performance enables system designers to reduce overall motor and motor-control unit costs significantly.

The three members in the series are the MB91F585 (with 576 KB Flash and 48 KB RAM); the MB91F586 (with 832 KB Flash and 64 KB RAM); and the MB91F587 (with 1088 KB Flash and 96 KB RAM).

“The MB91580 series is an ideal design choice for electric and hybrid vehicles because it is designed specifically to support motor control requirements,” said Akio Nezu, senior manager for marketing, Fujitsu Semiconductor America. “These microcontrollers use a dedicated embedded resolver sensor interface to control the three-phase inverter, resulting in optimal motor controllability. This enables the system designer to achieve higher performance while lowering the system cost.”

Tutuka Software Takes Gifting and Loyalty Programmes To New Levels

0

Tutuka provides innovative and simple software solutions for gift vouchers or cards, prepaid cash replacement and loyalty programmes, and recently created the official VISA FIFA World Cup card for the 2010 tournament held in South Africa

Tutuka is the premier Voucher Software provider. Tutuka develops open standard software to issue, redeem and reconcile vouchers whether printed, card based, emailed or sent to mobile phones. Tutuka’s software applications are developed in house.

These are some of their products

Paper vouchers:

• Tutuka first began by issuing solely paper vouchers. However as the market and company evolved, there has gradually been a movement towards the Card based vouchers.

• Tutuka still issues paper vouchers in certain markets. A good example would be our clients from the government sector. We issue paper based training vouchers to many of the government SETA’s.

Private Label Cards:

• Tutuka issues private label gift cards for a significant number of retailers in South Africa.

• These cards are used within a specific retailing network. We often refer to this as a closed loop card system.

• These cards have a mag stripe and BIN generated by Tutuka.

• In order to load, redeem and obtain a balance on the cards, the retailer or group can either integrate to Tutuka’s VoucherEngine (Tutuka will provide integration specifications), use terminals that allow for gift card transactions or use Tutuka’s online POS system VoucherPOS.

• These cards are also used for loyalty programmes.

• The cards are reloadable and are branded by the client.

SMS Vouchers:

• Tutuka’s VoucherEngine can issue SMS vouchers.

• The voucher is a 10 or 16 digit number that can include a message from the issuer.

• The vouchers are  prepaid and Tutuka keeps an online quota balance for the client.

• The vouchers can be redeemed at a POS that has Tutuka’s Voucher system.

• These type of vouchers are used mainly by large loyalty programmes.

Prepaid Shopping Centre Cards:

• Tutuka, in conjunction with Standard Bank, launched a prepaid MasterCard gift card for shopping centres in 2005.

• The card is branded according to the Clients specifications and must include a MasterCard hologram.

• The card can be redeemed at a retailer that accepts MasterCard.
