Startups In Nigeria Need Sustainable Models – Where is Netaviva?

0

We are noticing that many startups in Nigeria are going down. They come to business and register their domains, but as soon as it is time to new the domains, they go .gone. Nwalla  is no more online and we just checked Netaviva and noted that it is not available also. We hope these are hosting issues and not that these firms are out of business.

We got this from Netaviva website in case you do not know the firm

Netaviva is a web-based application that provides business/social networking tools. Netaviva connects professionals, investors, and entrepreneurs in Africans with their projects, ideas or business proposals. This allows individuals, entrepreneurs, companies, advisers and investors to see straight through the Africa market and collectively self-publish, match, learn, validate and consume different types of equity market content in hours.

Netaviva allows individuals, enterpreneurs, investors, companies in Africa to create professionally-oriented profiles, find an expert, share knowledge and facilitate online transactions. Netaviva major features are business plans dashboard, marketplace system, and business directory.

The startup ecosystem in Nigeria is very toxic. There is no infrastructure. The cost of broadband remains high while electricity is nowhere. Until government helps in these regards, it will be very difficult to sustain these companies.

Cameroon Coworking Hub Invites Fellows – Time To Co-share, Co-Learn and Co-Create Is Here

0

ActivSpaces is an open innovation and collaboration platform in Cameroon. It is similar to iHub in Kenya.  Based in Buea, it works in many areas of technology – social media, hardware and creativity. It has a Fellows program which is very popular – readers in Cameroon could give it a try.

The ActivSpaces Fellows Program is an opportunity for talented, enthusiastic people to come to Cameroon and work beside equally talented and highly motivated local developers and tech entrepreneurs. The goal is to facilitate a mutual transfer of skills, knowledge and expertise. We encourage men and women of all cultures, nationalities and creeds to apply. Fellows spend their time in Cameroon working on projects with ActivSpaces members, leading workshops, coordinating projects, advising entrepreneurs and more.

How it Works
Fellows will come to Buea, Cameroon and work alongside a dynamic group of talented programmers helping to support projects while also offering mentoring and business coaching on a peer-to-peer basis. Fellowships are typically for one month, but may be longer or shorter depending on your desire. To participate, you will need to cover your travel expenses to Cameroon. Accommodations are available at a quiet guesthouse with private rooms and shared kitchen facilities within walking distance to ActivSpaces. The guest house is situated near the base of 4090m Mt. Cameroon, the highest peak in West Africa, and has spectacular views of Douala, Buea and the Gulf of Guinea. A local market and several restaurants are conveniently located nearby.

Before you arrive, you should consult your local travel medicine clinic about which vaccinations and medications you’ll need for your stay. The CDC has this useful health information for travellers to Cameroon.

Multiple-entry tourist visas for Cameroon are valid for 90 days and must be obtained prior to your arrival. Check with your local Cameroonian Consular office for specific visa requirements, as these vary depending upon your country of origin. If needed, we can provide you with a legalized letter of invitation to assist you in this process.

When you arrive, we can arrange airport pickup at Douala International and transport via private car to Buea. Rooms at the guesthouse are simple but clean and adequate for short or long stays. Bring your own towel and toiletries. Housekeeping services are provided and the kitchen is equipped for you to prepare your own meals.

Eqypt Tops Africa But Nigeria Is Just Behind – The Internet Geography of Africa

0

Africa’s first registered ccTLD (.EG) still tops. Yes, when you look at the world from the number of population online, Egypt rules and Nigeria comes second, in Africa. The above graph was adapted from Bytelevel and it gives visualization of ccTLDs in Africa. The bigger the size, the more the number of the nation’s citizens are online. Notice that this map was generated from the top level domain in the nation.

A whole new way of looking at the world
At the end of every URL and email address is a top-level domain (TLD). Although .com is the world’s most popular TLD, it is far from alone. There are more than 260 TLDs in use around the world, most of which are country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). The Country Codes of the World map includes 245 country codes, which encompasses all United Nations countries as well as numerous islands and territories. Each two-digit code is aligned over the country it represents and is color coded with the legend below for quick and easy reference.

AN ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, DR. GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, GCFR, AT THE INAUGURATION OF THE PRESIDENTIAL TASK TEAM ON EDUCATION, TUESDAY 4TH JANUARY, 2011 AT THE

Protocol

  • It gives me great pleasure to be present at this auspicious occasion of the inauguration of the Presidential Task Team on Education. The membership of this Team has been selected based on high integrity, competence and experience. You are therefore expected to handle this special assignment with total commitment. We equally expect your work to be of highest quality that should stand the test of time.

  • Education is the heart of national development and the source of quality human capital development that will propel Nigeria to be among the top 20 economies in the world; and also adequately meet its global commitment with respect to the attainment of Education for All (EFA) and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The internationally accepted standard stipulates that any country aspiring to develop should invest over 25% of its national budget on education and research. Today our national education sector is in crisis due to numerous and daunting challenges which call for urgent attention.

  • This is the reason we convened the Presidential Stakeholders’ Summit on Education in October, 2010, to address these problems. You will recall Ladies and Gentlemen, that in my lead presentation during the summit, I focused on the falling education systems, identified some of the causes and challenged the participants to proffer solutions in a pragmatic and clearly implementable manner, while giving assurance of the highest political commitment and support. Thus, the summit was held to achieve our collective dreams and visions for tomorrow through restoration, reclamations and sustenance of Quality and Ethics in Education
  • Some recommendations made on these issues range from policy, institutional arrangement and governance, funding arrangement and resources mobilization, legal frame work, ethics and values system, physical infrastructure and institutional facilities, teacher quality and content effect of sectional sentiment over quality, the role of the community and NGOs as well as sustainability. It was also agree that Education should hence forth occupy its central position in the National Development Agenda.

In order to implement these recommendations therefore, the summit agreed that a Presidential Task Team should be constituted. Hence we are gathered here today.

Ladies and gentlemen, I hereby inaugurate the Presidential Task Team on Education.

Thank you for your attention.
