A University Don To Deliver a Paper at Embedded Systems MASTERs at Fasmicro Owerri Design Center

0

On July 18 2011,  Engr. I. OGHOGHO of Landmark University, Nigeria will deliver a paper titled EMBEDDED SYSTEMS DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT AND ACHIEVING VISION20:2020. We invite the general public to attend. The paper will be presented during Fasmicro Embedded Systems MASTERs 2011.  Find below an abstract to the paper.

This paper presents massive investments in human capacity building to enhance the development of the Nigerian indigenous embedded systems technology as a key factor towards achieving Vision20:2020. The goals and objectives of Vision20:2020 as well as necessary steps or actions that have been identified as vital to the achievement of the vision are briefly discussed.

Investment in technology driven Agriculture as well as Hi-tech manufacturing industries to boost the Nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) and gross national income (GNI) stands out among the vital steps identified. Developed and emerging economies in the world were investigated to ascertain the key factor responsible for their growth and development. The research findings show that no nation can develop beyond her technology or experience economic boom on borrowed technology.

Engaging in human capacity building through establishment and funding of research and training centers on embedded systems design and development will provide the platform for indigenous solutions in the form of equipments, machines, tools, products, etc ranging from very simple to complex systems to be developed so as to meet the growing needs of our agricultural, manufacturing and other industrial sectors. An embedded system is a micro-processor based system that is built to control a function or range of functions and is not designed to be used by the user in the same way that a personal computer (PC) is.

Embedded digital technology is present in many equipments and systems, and is used to increase functionality, as well as to improve operation at low cost. They are now found in almost all technical devices, from simple everyday home appliances, to facilities and facility management such as heating, air conditioning, elevators and escalators, in agricultural equipments and in production units from robotics to production automation and control systems, etc.

With appropriate Government policies and the will to stick to the implementation plans, in place, sustenance of achieved development and economic growth resulting from development of embedded system technologies will be guaranteed. Soon we will have Nigerian made digital watches, mp3 players, phones, traffic lights, cable modems, calculators, technology driven farm tools, manufacturing and processing equipments, cars, medical equipments, etc designed, developed and produced by Nigerians for Nigerians and for other countries of the world. This will strengthen and grow our economy by boosting our GDP and GNI at an accelerated pace and vision20:2020 will then be achieved.

Mobile App and Tablet Industry Analysis – Nigeria

1

Editor’s Note: This is adapted from a proposal to a customer. The hard numbers are out.

This is what we think, based on early sales data from the all new Ovim Plus tablet which is doing marvelously well in Nigeria now. If you have not gotten your copy, please do so NOW.

We estimate that smart mobile devices growth rate will quadruple this year in Nigeria. Presently, Blackberry is the most popular smartphone in Nigeria. But with the introduction of Huawei Android IDEOS by Starcomms, we expect more than 300,000 IDEOS units to be sold this year.

IDEOS is the cheapest smartphone in the developing world at $100. It jumped from zero unit in December 2010 to sell 180,000 within six months in Kenya (a small nation to Nigerian size) according to Huawei CEO Herman He.

We expect Nigeria to do better. As Blackberry cuts price to wedge off competition from Android, a lot of growth will take place.  Nokia is also coming with its sub-$100 s’phone. We do not discount Microsoft partnership with Nokia to give an affordable smartphone. So, in the near future, the mobile ecosystem of Nigeria and Africa is very promising.

With the smartphone market running, apps development opens a new level of opportunity. Any firm that goes into the space will tap early technology adopters who now connect to enterprise products and services through mobile apps.

By 2011 end, we expect more than […] smartphone and tablets in use in Nigeria and that includes Nokia Symbian, Microsoft Windows Mobile, Google Android, Apple iOS, and Java. This means ready customers for your brand.

So having an app today is a good investment for your business development and marketing. Fasmicro is Nigeria’s leader in mobile apps. We are here to offer solutions that meet your needs. Talk to the experts and let us brand you in the mobile ecosystem.

Google Plus Vs Facebook- The Possibilities of Google (+) Plus Wining facebook

5

In this blog, I will point out few potentials Google+ posses to take over the domain of social media network.

Better Friend management

Google’s “Circles” concept is more in line with the way people makes friends in their real life. We have many different kinds of friends, and interact with them and communicate with them in very different ways. So, a different Circle for different friends. This concept is the key for Google Plus which is not abailable I face book.

Better photo tagging

When viewing photos in Google plus you can “tag” the people in them similar to the way you do in Facebook, but there is a big difference in the way Google handles the privacy aspect of photo tagging. When you tag someone, you can see this note “Adding this tag will notify the person you have tagged. They will be able to view the photo and the related album.” Facebook does not make an effort to warn people that they have been tagged.

Integration with Google Services

The biggest advantage of Google+ is its integration with all the Google services. Google will build Google+ social networking features and tools into all of its existing online services from Search to Documents to Video. With this, Google lets you monitor all Google+ events (like updates, messages, etc.) as well as share content with friends without ever leaving the Google services. With this integration, users can think twice to switch for another website for social networking.

Easier to find stuff to share

Google plus sparks feature is another important feature from Facebook. Since, Facebook has no search engine, its users must leave the site to find shareable data or they should wait for their friends to share it with them.

Data back guaranteed

In Facebook, you are forced to make certain parts of your personal data “public” and it is very hard to permanently delete your Facebook profile. Google, on the other hand, makes it possible for you to pick up all the data you have banked at Google plus and walk away. This can be done through a Google plus tool called “Data Liberation.” With just a few clicks you can download data from your Picasa Web Albums, Google profile, Google Plus stream, Buzz and contacts.

Better Mobile App

If you are an Android user, you may find that getting content from your phone to your social platform is easier with the Google plus mobile application. The application is great, but Google will seek more and more ways to make Android phone a seamless with Google+ social platform.

Hangouts –A better group chat features

Google plus has beat Facebook in the area of chat. With Hangouts you can chat with your group, very easily. Similarly, the new Huddle mobile app makes it easy for mobile (Android) users to start up group text chats. Facebook simply doesn’t offer these tools.

Superior content sharing

Google has a stronger security and Google Plus has that capability. For instance, when users share an article or upload a camera image, Google+ gives choices of which friend circles they would like to share that content with.

Introduction

In the last few years, most parts of the world have morphed into an electronically interdependent economic unit where a disruption in one marketplace affects the others. New technologies have emerged, transforming the ways we do business and, consequently, redesigning the world. Innovation in disruptive technologies pushes new and more agile firms to set new benchmarks and forces established companies to incorporate evolving breakthroughs into their models or re-invent themselves to stay competitive.

Innovation thus remains a key driver in wealth creation, but the way it happens is changing as a result of new technologies, processes and tools. As social media networks advance, outsourcing ideas to the crowd has become common, while inter-company R&D that pools resources together is a new normal. From agriculture to print media, finance to mortgage and across sectors, industries, and disciplines, the world is being redesigned. The emerging implications are enormous—less energy for processing natural resources, less waste in processed raw materials—and these translate to positive effects on the environment. Yet, few research works exist about these developments, despite the exponential growth rate of new technologies with the potential to massively impact business and society.

Google+(Plus) – Redefining New Trends in Social Network

0

Google+ is already becoming more than just a social network. It’s more like a new platform for communications. Facebook is just one big social jumble that too many of us end up using for business communications because it’s convenient. Google+ only let’s work and life meet where you want it to.

According to Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President, Engineering while introducing the project, he says;

+Circles: share what matters, with the people who matter most
Not all relationships are created equal. So in life we share one thing with college buddies, another with parents, and almost nothing with our boss. The problem is that today’s online services turn friendship into fast food—wrapping everyone in “friend” paper—and sharing really suffers:

It’s sloppy. We only want to connect with certain people at certain times, but online we hear from everyone all the time.

It’s scary. Every online conversation (with over 100 “friends”) is a public performance, so we often share less because of stage fright.

It’s insensitive. We all define “friend” and “family” differently—in our own way, on our own terms—but we lose this nuance online.

From close family to foodies, we found that people already use real-life circles to express themselves, and to share with precisely the right folks. So we did the only thing that made sense: we brought Circles to software. Just make a circle, add your people, and share what’s new—just like any other day

+Sparks: strike up a conversation, about pretty much anything
Healthy obsessions inspire sharing, and we’ve all got one (or two, or three…). Maybe it’s muscle cars, or comic books, or fashion, but the attraction is always the same: it comes up in conversation, we immediately jump in, and we share back and forth with other fans. Often for hours. The trick is getting things started, and getting over that initial hump. Fortunately, the web is the ultimate icebreaker.

The web, of course, is filled with great content—from timely articles to vibrant photos to funny videos. And great content can lead to great conversations. We noticed, however, that it’s still too hard to find and share the things we care about—not without lots of work, and lots of noise. So, we built an online sharing engine called Sparks.

Thanks to Google’s web expertise, Sparks delivers a feed of highly contagious content from across the Internet. On any topic you want, in over 40 languages. Simply add your interests, and you’ll always have something to watch, read and share—with just the right circle of friends:

+Hangouts: stop by and say hello, face-to-face-to-face
whether it’s inside a pub or on a front porch, human beings have always enjoyed hanging out. And why not? It’s how we unwind, recharge, and spend unscheduled time with old and new friends alike. Hanging out is deceptively simple though, and the nuance gets lost online.

Just think: when you walk into the pub or step onto your front porch, you’re in fact signaling to everyone around, “Hey, I’ve got some time, so feel free to stop by.” Further, it’s this unspoken understanding that puts people at ease, and encourages conversation. But today’s online communication tools (like instant messaging and video-calling) don’t understand this subtlety:

They’re annoying, for starters. You can ping everyone that’s “available,” but you’re bound to interrupt someone’s plans.

They’re also really awkward. When someone doesn’t respond, you don’t know if they’re just not there, or just not interested.

With Google+ we wanted to make on-screen gatherings fun, fluid and serendipitous, so we created Hangouts. By combining the casual meetup with live multi-person video, Hangouts lets you stop by when you’re free, and spend time with your Circles. Face-to-face-to-face.

+Mobile: share what’s around, right now, without any hassle

These days a phone is the perfect sharing accessory: it’s always with you, it’s always online, and it’s how we stay close with our closest friends. We didn’t want “just” a mobile experience, however, so with Google+ we focused on things (like GPS, cameras, and messaging) to make your pocket computer even more personal.

+Huddle

Coordinating with friends and family in real-time is really hard in real life. After all, everyone’s on different schedules, in different places, and plans can change at any moment. Phone calls and text messages can work in a pinch, but they’re not quite right for getting the gang together. So Google+ includes Huddle, a group messaging experience that lets everyone inside the circle know what’s going on, right this second.

In my own opinion, despite Facebook’s announcements of “something awesome” to be launched today (July 6), Google Plus’s threat to the world’s de-facto social networking service remains real and imminent.
